Boarding/Agisting

There are several ways to invest in alpacas. Obviously, one course is to purchase and raise alpacas on your own farm, but there are a couple of other options where you can board (called "agisting") your alpacas.

We offer agistment for any customers who purchase alpacas from Bluegrass Alpaca Ranch. Agistment allows new buyers to invest in alpacas and build equity, as you learn about the animals, proper care for them and build confidence in your ability to be an alpaca farmer! This task can be a bit overwhelming at first; I speak from experience. Neither of us grew up on farms so, we knew very little about farming and caring for livestock in our early days. However, with a little help from our mentors and friends, we learned at our pace. One of the great things about alpacas is that they are generally very patient as you learn, and with good mentors, you’ll have it down in no time!

Most importantly, the security and health of your alpaca investment is assured. We’ll relieve any fear and risk you feel, as you spend as much time as you need to gain confidence in alpaca husbandry. Your core herd will slowly multiply (if you want it to), while you build equity and define your business plan.

The advantage of agisting is that you can “passively” invest as you can do with other financial investments. You don’t have the expense of building a barn, doing fencing, or having to provide herd management or daily care. However, you get to “actively” invest in make critical decisions for your alpacas such as breeding, showing, selling or marketing.

We offer free 90-day agistment with the purchase of breeding females and fiber-quality alpacas. Daily boarding fees vary depending on the term and number of alpacas per purchase but range from $3-5 per day.
